Of course
she already had her wedding colors picked out but as a planner I encouraged her
to not be sooo specific. The bride NEVER thinks like that…but the planner knows
better than not to. For instance, when you pick cerulean blue for your
wedding…you’ll find that you fall in love with the bridesmaid dress that
doesn’t come in that particular shade! That will more than likely force you to
choose something “close”…or pick a different dress that you don’t like as much! Once you get over that hurdle, you’ll find
the tablecloths don’t come in that new blue shade or the original cerulean
blue…and then it’s all downhill from there! Pick a color by all means but I
find attaching adjectives such as “light…dark…true” to describe it works better
for everyone and allows the bride to keep her composure <---which is MOST
important! Being unique is WONDERFUL, but being creative may prove to be best
when planning a wedding. Slow and steady wins the race…no quick emotional
decisions! You’ll still have to order quite a few samples and sometimes things
may not match perfectly if you pick a rather unpopular color or basic rental
company…but at least having an open mind will keep you from extreme
disappointment.
Because she’s
circling around 3 very bright and vibrant colors, I told her it can be done
tastefully and she may consider adding yellow to the flowers only. So vibrant
color number one, vibrant color number two, and then flowers only in the yellow!
After about 3-4 emails discussing VERY IMPORTANT TOP SECRET INFO…She thanked me
saying verbatim, “Aww thanks girl! That’s funny...I was thinking about adding
yellow in the flowers! Man, you know a heck of a lot about his stuff!!! I
appreciate that!!! Whew chile, I ain’t thought about the different shades and
such…that is to come lol. But you’re the bomb event planner so you KNOW what’s
up! Awww Timeless Creations!!!! I need that in my life!!!” <--- You can see
we’re pretty close right, we speak alike lol. How sweet…spread some of that around
these local clients hunnie, so they’ll need me too!
This got me
to thinking how brides should pick their colors…after all the color scheme has
the power to set the vibe! It should be amongst the first decisions because that’s
the only way to be sure everything else coordinates as you go through the
process.
Quick Tips: Use
your favorite shade…if a particular color has made you happy since forever…incorporate
it. You can tastefully use any color…so don’t limit yourself by saying but
brown is sooo blah…in the right hue and combining it with the right accents you
could have a winner! Consider going to a hardware store, the paint swatches are
FREE! When are you planning this shindig? Consider the season when determining
the shade of blue. Don’t forget to
consult your man…he may not be comfortable wearing an ole delicious tangerine
as a cummerbund or waistcoat! Even if you aren’t exactly sure where the venue
will be…it may be a good idea to go ahead and pick a type of venue. Will it be outside, regal ballroom, or tent with picnic tables? A good planner
must consider the venue’s floors, drapery and decorations when she begins to
draw up your blueprints. If the venue has STRONG colors (I had to work with red
walls not too long ago) you may have to incorporate your color scheme with a
lot of “CARE”. Don’t fret…it can be DONE!
Tah-Tah
what about courthouse white & Justice of the Peace black??
ReplyDeleteI personally don't like either of those colors! Luckily you don't either so we'll leave those to the next...
